2019 Beau Dickenson
Beau Dickenson graduated from Broadway High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. He previously taught in Shenandoah County & Winchester City Public Schools before coming home to Rockingham County in 2005. He taught at Spotswood High School for ten years where he became a national board-certififed teacher. In 2015, he moved into his current position as the History and Social Science Supervisor for Rockingham County Public Schools. This past year, he was elected president of his state-wide professional organization: the Virginia Social Studies Leaders Consortium. Since that time, he has been asked to serve on Governor Northam's Commission on African American History Education that is reviewing the Virginia Social Studies SOL curriculum. He has a particular passion for local history, and he eagerly serves on the Board of Trustees for the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society. He lives in Harrisonburg with his wife, Sally, and their two children, Sierra and Henry.
